Mass cataract surgery refers to a public health strategy of providing large-scale cataract surgery to people living in underserved healthcare or healthcare provider. Cataracts are a leading cause of blindness worldwide, and mass cataract surgery programs aim to provide access to high-quality cataract surgery to as many people as possible. This Mass Cataract Surgery was held at RST dr. Soedjono Magelang from December 16th-17th 2023. There were 72 patients who underwent the cataract surgery.

These programs typically involve a team of skilled ophthalmologists and support staff who travel to remote or underserved areas to perform cataract surgery on a large number of patients in a short period of time. There are 9 ophthalmologist and 14 ophthalmology residents from Perdami Jawa Tengah and Perdami DIY who participated in this social service activity.

The benefits of mass cataract surgery include improved vision and quality of life for individuals with cataracts, as well as a reduction in the burden of blindness and visual impairment in the community. However, there are also potential risks associated with the procedure, including infection, bleeding, and other complications.
